Import, export, and share

Choose the right format for editable CAD, reference geometry, manufacturing meshes, or project transfer.

Share editable MakerSolid projects

Use Share when another MakerSolid user needs the full editable project. The `.makersolid` package contains CAD state and packaged imported sources. Duplicate and project sharing require unlocked access.

Import geometry

  • Import STEP creates exact positioned solid bodies when supported data is present. Imported body names and colors are retained when available, and the bodies can be used by ordinary modeling tools.
  • Import STL Mesh creates display/reference geometry. You can position, copy, group, lock, hide, and color it, but it does not become editable CAD and is excluded from model exports.
  • In Sketch, Import brings SVG or DXF vector geometry into the active sketch. Reference Images adds a traceable image underlay.

Confirm the source units and placement after import. Meshes describe triangles and do not contain the feature history or exact analytic faces found in CAD data.

Export formats

  • STL exports tessellated body geometry for workflows such as slicing and 3D printing. It does not carry editable features or standard body colors.
  • 3MF exports mesh geometry with supported body names and color/material metadata in an archive suited to modern manufacturing workflows.
  • STEP exports exact replayed solid bodies, names, and colors when native STEP support is available.

Choose the bodies and export settings, review the result, and use the system share flow. Demo usage includes a limited number of exports; unlocked access provides unlimited supported exports.
