MakerSolid Documentation Version 1.5.2

Modeling tool

Shell

Hollow a solid to a constant wall thickness while removing the selected faces as openings.

Purpose

Hollow a solid to a constant wall thickness while removing the selected faces as openings.

Where to find it

Select a face in Model and choose Modify > Shell.

Selection

  • Select the face to open. The remaining faces are offset to form the shell walls.

Steps

  1. Select Open Face and enter Thickness.
  2. Enable Intersections only when offset surfaces cross and require kernel intersection handling.
  3. Review the preview and tap Apply.

Options

Thickness

Sets the wall thickness and must be small enough for the body's tightest curvature and gaps.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Intersections

Enables kernel intersection handling for offset surfaces that cross during shelling.

Result

Apply adds a Shell feature and opens the selected face.

Editing

Open Shell in History to change Thickness or intersection handling.

Troubleshooting

Shell fails around small radii or narrow gaps.

Reduce Thickness, simplify upstream fillets, or enable Intersections when offset walls cross.
