MakerSolid Documentation Version 1.5.2

Sketch tool

Parallel

Constrain two straight sketch lines to remain parallel.

Purpose

Constrain two straight sketch lines to remain parallel.

Where to find it

While editing a sketch, open Constraints and choose Parallel.

Selection

  • Tap the reference line and then the line that should align with it.

Steps

  1. Select two lines.
  2. Confirm the second line takes the nearest parallel direction and any corners already joined to it stay connected. When the two lines meet, their shared corner remains the rotation pivot.

Options

Line pair

The selected two straight lines define the relationship; there are no numeric controls.

Result

A Parallel constraint is added between the selected lines. On application, the second line adjusts by the smaller rotation around a shared corner when there is one, and previously joined corners remain connected. The first line stays in place when the other constraints allow it.

Editing

Use Manage Constraints in a relationship constraint panel and delete Parallel to allow independent line angles.

Troubleshooting

The solver cannot make the lines parallel.

The first line stays selected as the reference. Tap a different second line, or remove conflicting angle, fixed, horizontal, vertical, or perpendicular constraints. Tap directly on an edge away from a shared corner to avoid selecting the neighboring line.
