Modeling tool

Hole

Cut a positioned simple, clearance, counterbore, countersink, counterdrill, or threaded hole into solid bodies.

Purpose

Cut a positioned simple, clearance, counterbore, countersink, counterdrill, or threaded hole into solid bodies.

Where to find it

Select a supported planar face in Model and choose Create > Hole.

Selection

  • Select the planar Face that supplies placement coordinates and drilling direction.
  • Choose the point by tapping the face or enter Local X and Local Y; Use Face Center resets placement to the face center.

Steps

  1. Choose Face and Point, then select Type, Standard, and Size or Diameter.
  2. Choose Through All or enter Depth and configure the type-specific geometry.
  3. Review the cut preview and tap Apply.

Options

Local X / Local Y

Position the hole in the selected face coordinate frame; signed values move on either side of its origin.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Use Face Center

Moves the placement point to the center of the selected face.

Type

Selects the hole form and reveals its related controls.

Standard

Custom permits direct dimensions; ISO and ANSI provide catalog sizes where available.

Size

Selects a catalog designation and fills its standard dimensions.

Available when: Shown when the Standard and Type have catalog entries.

Diameter / Tap Drill

Sets the main cut diameter, or displays the catalog tap-drill diameter for a standard Threaded hole.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Through All

Cuts through the full intersected target instead of stopping at a numeric depth.

Cut Intersections

Extends the cut through every body intersected by the hole path instead of only the primary target.

Depth

Sets blind-hole depth when Through All is off.

Available when: Shown when Through All is off.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Bore Dia / Bore Depth

Set the enlarged cylindrical recess for Counterbore and Counterdrill types.

Available when: Shown for Counterbore or Counterdrill.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Sink Dia / Sink Angle

Set the mouth diameter and included conical angle for a Countersink.

Available when: Shown for Countersink.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Point Angle

Sets the included angle of the drill point; zero creates a flat bottom.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Thread

Chooses Cosmetic metadata or Modeled helical geometry for a Threaded hole.

CosmeticModeled

Available when: Shown for Threaded holes.

Direction

Chooses a Right- or Left-handed internal thread.

RightLeft

Available when: Shown for Threaded holes.

Thread Depth

Sets how far the thread extends into the hole independently of the drilled depth.

Available when: Shown for Threaded holes.

ƒ Accepts variables and expressions

Result

Apply adds an associative Hole cut feature with the chosen placement and form.

Editing

Open Hole in History to change placement, type, standard, dimensions, extent, or threading.

Troubleshooting

The hole does not cut the body or a catalog option is unavailable.

Confirm the point lies over solid material, increase Depth or enable Through All, and choose Custom when the requested Type has no catalog size.
